FACT: 17% of the world's population have a strong aversion to the flavour of coriander.
As difficult as it may be to believe, a small but significant number of people struggle through life without ever understanding the delicate complexity of coriander's flavour. They are our friends, they are our family members, and they cannot stand the taste of coriander.
Until now, there has been no one to speak on the behalf of this deeply troubled group. The Coriander Love campaign hopes to change this.
Scientists have discovered a gene, OR6A2, that correlates strongly with coriander dislike. Carriers of the gene are especially sensitive to the aldehyde chemicals that give the herb its distinctive taste, sweet pungency and incredible aroma. Treatments that reverse the horrible affliction of coriander hate are now in development.
Despite this, such treatments are a long way off and it could be decades before they are commercially available. In the mean time, the Coriander Love campaign is calling for the forced sterilisation of all carriers of the OR6A2 gene. This way, we can be sure that future generations will never have to endure the terrible pain of coriander hate with all it's associated ill effects.
